ABOUT THE FILM

December 2023. World leaders gather in Dubai at the UN climate change conference COP28. Meanwhile, a group of young people fill bags with rubbish collected under an overpass on the bank of the Roja river, in Ventimiglia. Some speak Italian, some English, some French. Some of them are migrants waiting for the right moment to cross the border, others have spent the last few days taking part in a training activity in the nearby ecovillage of Torri Superiore, an intentional community that represents a concrete example of community life, participation and ecological practices. Here young people from 11 European countries met to talk about social permaculture, a design discipline aimed at creating sustainable human settlements by applying the observation of natural processes to the study of relationships between individuals, groups and peoples. The young people lived together for a week, played and cooked together and confronted themselves with their privileges and their dreams of a sustainable and welcoming world.

The course trainers are some of the most recognizable voices in social permaculture, and guide us to discover an innovative discipline, through which we explore some of the most pressing questions of our times: how can we come together despite our differences to save the planet before it’s too late?
