Call for Volunteer Coordinator at European Ecovillage Gathering 2025

The Dream Team is an international group of young volunteers (18-30 years old) put together by GEN Europe every year – via the European Solidarity Corps programme – who come to support the Gathering whilst having a fantastic experience and who get to enjoy the Gathering at no cost.
This year this group will comprise 15 volunteers who will spend 4 weeks together at Manas Garden, Hungary.
We are looking for one person to coordinate this team, both in terms of tasks and in terms of wellbeing. This is a chance for you to grow in a leadership position whilst working & living in community for 4 weeks and creating connections with many people across Europe, and to dive deep(er) into the ecovillage movement and the biggest ecovillage event in Europe!

Requirements
- No age limit
- Be available from July 26 (arrival day) to August 25 (departure day) 2025
- Ideally, having attended the Gathering once before (but not mandatory)
Participant Profile
You enjoy leading a team and you believe in empowering leadership. You remain calm under pressure and you are able to hold a loving, grounding space for young people for whom it might be their first experience abroad and hence overwhelming at times. You are up for facing challenges with a solution-oriented mind. You’re willing to do your best to communicate efficiently and compassionately and to resolve tensions or conflicts. You are at ease with addressing issues, holding people to their commitment, with giving constructive feedback, and with exploring what is really going on and finding the best solution for everyone. You value diversity and are committed to inclusivity and equity, and you are confident in navigating cultural and language differences. Finally, you are thrilled to embark on an intense but rewarding journey that will teach you a lot about yourself and the ecovillage movement!
What?
You will be involved in the Gathering preparation, implementation and wrap-up.
Prior to arriving at the Gathering location, you will have a 2-hour online meeting with the Gathering Managers to understand this year’s Gathering and the Dream Team tasks. You will also be involved in recruiting the 15 volunteers for the Dream Team (in June), and in the communication with them. You will be supported in ESC programme related bureaucracy by the appointed project manager of GEN Europe.
During the preparation phase onsite, you’ll foster team bonding and support the team to get to know GEN Europe, the Gathering and their tasks. You will get to know the various people in the organisation you and your team will collaborate with and you’ll be in communication with them (via tools such as Rocket Chat and Telegram, so you’ll need to be on your phone).
During the Gathering itself you will make sure that the volunteers are supporting the programme elements they committed to support, and you will help to resolve issues and conflicts that might arise. You will be in daily communication with the Gathering Managers to respond to emerging needs (programme-related only). You will be able to attend workshops as long as you’re available by phone to address needs and questions.
After the Gathering, you’ll support the volunteers with the wrapping up and you’ll help them to reflect on their learnings during this experience.
When & Where?
From July 27 to August 24 so 4 weeks in total + 2 travel days (or 4 travel days if you’re coming from further away by bus/train/boat).
At the Gathering venue, Manas Garden.
Conditions
- You will receive a bed in an indoor shared room (with 5 other people).
- You will be provided with 3 vegetarian meals a day for the whole duration of your stay.
- Your travel tickets/costs will be refunded to you.
- You will be paid a lump sum of 840€.
- You will work between 30 to 38 hours per week and you will have 2 days off per week + 2 days of holidays. However it’s difficult to give you days off during the Gathering week (as there is so much to do) so you’ll get a total of 10 days off during the 4 weeks but you will have to work 8 days in a row during the Gathering.
What is the European Solidarity Corps?
The European Solidarity Corps (ESC) is a European Union initiative which creates opportunities for young people to volunteer or work in projects in their own country or abroad that benefit communities and people around Europe. It provides an opportunity to join meaningful work and experiential learning while your food, accommodation, traveling, pocket money, insurance and mentorship are fully covered.
