Don’t miss this funded volunteering opportunity to live and work at the heart of the European ecovillage movement! Use your skills and enthusiasm for ecovillages and sustainable living, develop new competencies, make new friends and immerse yourself in community life while living in Arterra Bizimodu ecovillage, Basque country, Spain.
If you’re under 30, resident/citizen of the EU, interested in IT, media/design, non-profit management and projects or events management and curious about ecovillages…this is for you!

IT Assistance: Digital infrastructure and tools are crucial in a decentraliced, Global Ecovillage Network. Communicating with each other, reaching out to the world, delivering project results, etc would not be possible without IT. Also, we don’t use just any tool, at GEN Europe we take a strong stance for an ethical and regenerative digital culture, prioritizing open-source, community-focused infrastructure over mainstream tools.
You’ll support, maintain, and enrich GEN Europe’s core digital systems. We need someone with knowledge and interest in online tools, systems administration, and website development. Your tasks will include:
- Helping expand and improve the digital services we provide to members and the world (map, directory, etc)
- Managing and researching IT Systems (SysAdmin support)
- Curating, configuring, developing and of open source cloud-based services
- Researching and creating educational resources promoting ethical digital culture
- Supporting in finding potential IT-related funding oportunities
- GEN Europe’s IT office support and documentation
We are looking for candidates with project management profiles that look forward to working with project specific teams or in the development of new GEN Europe projects. Depending on your skills, tasks may include:
- Assisting in writing project applications;
- Participating in project specific meetings and deliverables;
- Assisting in project implementation and reporting;
- Assisting with project budget management
Media & Graphic Design: If you’re skilled and enthusiastic about creating attractive graphic content about ecovillages and community living, this role is for you! In this role solid graphic design skills (Canva, Adobe Suite or open source alternatives) is a plus, and other skills such as audio and video editing and animation are warmly welcomed – feel free to make us a proposal based on your skill set. Depending on your skills, tasks may include:
- Graphic design (social media graphics, brochure layout, infographics)
- Video creation and editing
- Audio editing for the GEN Europe podcast
- Social media content creation and marketing
Help us to organise the yearly European Ecovillage Gathering, our biggest yearly event where 800 people from all over Europe come together to network, share knowledge and celebrate! Within the Gathering team, you will more specifically focus on:
- Registrations of all participants
- Programme of workshops and communication with workshop holders
- Evaluations & Gathering report after the event
You will be requested to work with emails and spreadsheets a lot, with an ability to follow up on multiple little tasks and an appetite to learn our registration system. You will be part of a work hard play hard team, and experience the backstage of this inspiring event!
If you love to know everything about all the ecovillages in the network, and you enjoy activities such as doing interviews, organising network meetings and sharing information through newsletters, you might be interested in this position. This role is for you if you have an eye for detail and structure and the enthusiasm to dive straight into GEN Europe and its inspiring members. Depending on your skills you might be involved in:
- Organising information for participants of the Annual General Assembly
- Collect and update information from our members for websites and projects
- Support the Membership Manager in developing new services for our members
- Assist in the outreach to new potential members
- Creating our monthly MoonCycle newsletter for our members
