GEN Europe is searching for a Project Manager!
We are pleased to announce that the Global Ecovillage Network of Europe (GEN Europe) is looking for a Project Manager to join our small and friendly team!
You will take a lead role in the delivery of SOILSTICE — a 36-month Horizon Europe Coordination and Support Action running from September 2026 to August 2029. SOILSTICE is a 20-partner European consortium coordinated by ECOLISE, focused on co-creating and implementing Territorial Management Agreements (TMAs) as instruments for participatory soil governance across 11 countries. GEN Europe leads key work packages on capacity building, inclusive engagement, and funding sustainability, and is responsible for four project deliverables.
As Project Manager, you will be responsible for the full delivery of GEN Europe’s SOILSTICE obligations — managing consortium relationships, leading task teams, coordinating internal contributors, and ensuring Horizon Europe compliance across a 36-month project cycle. You will work closely with the Development Manager, the Financial Manager, the Education Manager and the General Coordinator.
Applicants from all countries are welcome to apply, but must have the right to work and travel in the EU.
You’ll benefit from flexible working with a friendly team working remotely from across Europe. You’ll be comfortable working within a horizontal and collaborative structure and must be confident working with remote, international consortia. You will work directly with the Development Manager and project teams.
You’ll share the values of our organisation and be knowledgeable about the European ecovillage movement and allied movements in the sphere of regenerative, community-led, participatory development and ecological transition.
Like all members of the GEN Europe team, you will also be expected to contribute to the broader work of the organisation beyond your primary project assignment — including supporting new project development in your area of expertise as relevant opportunities arise.
*GEN Europe is committed to improving equality and diversity in our employment practices and all eligible applicants, regardless of age, race, gender, sexual orientation or disability, will be considered on merit.*

- Consortium liaison: representing GEN Europe in SOILSTICE consortium meetings and bilateral communications with the coordinator and relevant partners
- Work planning and monitoring: maintaining GEN Europe’s internal SOILSTICE work plan, tracking progress against milestones and deliverable deadlines, and flagging risks in good time
- Horizon Europe compliance: ensuring GEN Europe’s SOILSTICE activities comply with Horizon Europe grant agreement requirements, including supporting the preparation of technical reports and liaising with the Financial Manager on budget monitoring and timesheets
- Project staff recruitment: once in post, scoping and initiating the recruitment of additional project staff according to project needs
Portfolio-Wide Contribution
- Supporting the Development Manager: contributing to the coordination of GEN Europe’s broader Horizon, CERV, and Creative Europe project portfolio as relevant — particularly in areas where your expertise in participatory governance, EU funding pathways, or facilitation methodology intersects with other active or incoming projects
- New project development: as part of the broader GEN Europe team, contributing to new project development as relevant opportunities arise — supporting research, partnership scouting, or proposal drafting in your areas of competence
- Knowledge sharing: contributing to GEN Europe’s internal knowledge base on Horizon Europe project management, inclusive facilitation, and EU funding for local actors, supporting the team’s collective learning

- Experience coordinating multi-partner European consortia, including managing relationships with consortium coordinators and partner organisations across different countries and institutional contexts
- Strong written English with the ability to produce high-quality project deliverables — reports, toolkits, handbooks, and policy-oriented outputs — to Horizon Europe standards
- Understanding of participatory governance, inclusive facilitation, or community-led development methodologies
- Highly organised, with demonstrable experience managing complex work plans, multiple concurrent deadlines, and cross-partner dependencies
- Comfortable working remotely and autonomously within a small, horizontal, internationally distributed team
- Availability to travel within Europe for consortium meetings, pilot site visits, and GEN Europe events (+/- 15 days per year)
Desired Skills and Experience
- Direct experience with Horizon Europe CSA or RIA projects — familiarity with the specific administrative and reporting rhythm of these action types is highly desirable
- Background in soil governance, land stewardship, rural development, citizen science or territorial management
- Experience developing or delivering facilitator training programmes, capacity building activities, or train-the-trainer models
- Knowledge of EU funding instruments beyond Horizon Europe — particularly Erasmus+, LEADER, and CAP
- Familiarity with the GEN Europe network, the ecovillage movement, or allied movements in ecological transition and participatory community development
- Experience writing or contributing to EU project proposals
- Experience with sociocracy or non-hierarchical organising frameworks
- Additional EU language skills — French, German, Spanish, Italian, or others relevant to the SOILSTICE partner countries — are a plus
