Gen Europe is searching for a Communications Officer!

We are pleased to announce that the Global Ecovillage Network of Europe (GEN Europe) is looking for a Communications Officer to join our small and friendly team!

You will be responsible for managing and growing GEN Europe’s social media presence, creating compelling visual content, and providing graphic design and communications support across a portfolio of European-funded projects. You will play a central role in how GEN Europe and its projects communicate with the world  – from ecovillage communities and youth workers across Europe, to researchers, policymakers, and the general public.

You’ll benefit from flexible working with a friendly team working remotely from  across Europe. You’ll be comfortable working within a horizontal and collaborative structure and must be confident working with remote teams. You will work directly with the Communications Manager, General Coordinator, and project teams.

You’ll share the values of our organisation and be knowledgeable about the European ecovillage movement and allied movements in the sphere of regenerative, community-led, participatory development and ecological transition.

Role Description

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  1. Social Media Management
  • Day-to-day management of GEN Europe’s social media channels (Instagram, Facebook, BlueSky, Mastodon, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, PeerTube), including the management of social media for active EU-funded projects
  • Content planning, creation and scheduling across all platforms, maintaining a consistent posting rhythm and tone of voice
  • Community management: responding to comments and messages, fostering engagement
  • Coordination of youth-led social media campaigns, including working with young people and youth workers as content contributors
  • Collaborating with partner organisations to cross-promote content and co-create campaign materials
  • Monitoring performance metrics and reporting using platform analytics tools
  1. Graphic Design
  • Design and production of visual materials across print and digital formats: social media graphics, infographics, newsletters, event materials, reports, presentations and branded templates
  • Development and maintenance of visual identities for GEN Europe projects, including compliance with EU branding guidelines (co-funding acknowledgement, EU emblem)
  • Design of project deliverables and the GEN Europe Annual Report
  • Production of video thumbnails, website graphics, and digital assets
  • Ensuring design consistency across all communications channels
  1. Project Communications Support
  • Supporting the Communications Manager in implementing communications strategies for active EU projects
  • Supporting dissemination activities, including preparation of materials for conferences, workshops and online events
  • Assisting with the coordination of external contributors including volunteer communicators and local communication officers across partner organisations

Essential Skills

  • 3-5 years of documented professional experience
  • Strong graphic design skills with a professional portfolio demonstrating experience across digital and print formats
  • Proven experience managing social media channels for an organisation, network or project (not solely personal accounts)
  • Proficient in Canva and/or professional design tools (Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent)
  • Familiar and comfortable working within established brand guidelines and EU project communication requirements
  • Experience producing communications content for European-funded projects (Erasmus+, Horizon, or similar)
  • Excellent written English; strong copywriting and content creation skills across social media
  • Highly organised and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • Comfortable working remotely and collaboratively within an international team

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Experience working on Horizon Europe projects (not only Erasmus+) is highly desirable
  • Familiarity with the GEN network, ecovillage movement or similar grassroots and social movements
  • Experience with video creation and editing for social media and other platforms
  • Experience coordinating youth-led communications campaigns or working with young people as content creators
  • Familiar with WordPress (Gutenberg editor and/or Elementor) for website content management
  • Knowledge of CiviCRM or similar tools for mass mailing
  • Experience with sociocracy or non-hierarchical organising frameworks
  • Spanish or German language skills are a plus
