ABC Facilitation Training, a one-week immersive experience in a European ecovillage. This course is designed to equip participants with fundamental facilitation skills, helping you understand group dynamics, decision-making, conflict resolution, and organizational structures.
Through interactive sessions, hands-on practice, and a supportive learning environment, you will develop essential tools to guide groups effectively. Our approach blends theory with experience, using games, energizers, and real-life simulations to make learning engaging and fun.
Course Objectives
By the end of this training, you will:
- Understand the importance of facilitation in group processes.
- Learn basic decision-making methods, including sociocracy.
- Explore conflict dynamics, power structures, and group roles.
- Gain practical experience in facilitating meetings and giving feedback.
- Develop confidence in holding space for diverse groups.
Program Overview
Day 1: Welcome & Foundations of Facilitation
- Arrival, settling in, and introduction to the ecovillage.
- Opening circle: getting to know each other.
- What is facilitation? Why does it matter?
- Group agreements and creating a safe learning space.
- Icebreakers and team-building activities.
Day 2: Group Processes & Decision-Making
- How groups function: dynamics and stages of group development.
- Decision-making methods: consensus, consent, and majority voting.
- Introduction to sociocracy: principles and practice.
- Interactive exercise: making decisions as a team.
Day 3: Conflict, Power, and Roles in Groups
- Understanding conflict: perspectives and responses.
- The role of power and privilege in groups (rank awareness).
- Conflict transformation strategies.
- Role-play exercises: practicing mediation and nonviolent communication.
Day 4: Facilitation in Practice – Meetings & Participation
- What makes a good meeting? Structure, roles, and flow.
- The facilitator’s role: neutrality, clarity, and inclusivity.
- Simulation: facilitating a real meeting with feedback.
- Reflection and learning from experience.
Day 5: The Culture of Feedback & Organizational Structures
- Why feedback matters: learning and growth in groups.
- Tools for giving and receiving feedback effectively.
- Exploring different organizational models (hierarchy vs. self-organization).
- Case studies from real communities and collectives.
Day 6: Experiential Learning & Creative Approaches
- Using games, storytelling, and embodiment in facilitation.
- Engaging different learning styles in groups.
- Hands-on activities to apply new skills.
