Vision and Mission
The Italian network of ecological villages - RIVE believes that community life experiences are real social and educational experimentation laboratories for a better world. It recognizes as the ethical basis of its work the social equity based on spiritual, economic and ecological harmony. It promotes the spread of existing community and ecovillage experiences and the support for newly born communities. RIVE supports and collaborates with all the realities that work for a culture of peace, mutual acceptance, respect for diversity and solidarity.
About
Initiated by some of Europe’s most known ecovillages (Damanhur, Popolo degli Elfi, Bagnaia and Torri Superiore) the Italian Ecovillage Network RIVE is one of the oldest European Ecovillage Networks. Even though an official association was created only in 2007, regular meetings have been happening since 1996. Today, the council meets online on a weekly basis and the strong network organizes 4 bigger gatherings every year. Work is being done almost exclusively on a voluntary basis. RIVE created their own governance structure ‘Rivecracy’ which is an adaptation for sociocracy to the network’s needs.
