JULIO GREENWAY
MY LIFE JOURNEY SO FAR.
Since early childhood, I have been driven by the desire to help the environment. Due to my enthusiasm for the underwater world, I did a three-month internship in marine biology after graduating from high school. The scientific world fascinated me, but during the internship, I realized that I was missing the social component of life; human warmth and care for other people. Based on this realization, I studied to become a primary school teacher and had the opportunity to teach in Romania and Switzerland. However, I had the feeling that in the current school system, children were not sufficiently supported as “whole people”.
I remembered the African proverb that it takes a whole village to educate a child…
WHY I APPLIED FOR AN ESC WITH GEN?
In my eyes, ecovillages seem to combine the social needs of people, sustainability, and ecology as well as the possibility of a holistic education for children in a wonderful way. I believe that volunteering for GEN Europe is an ideal way to start the exploration of community life.
MY ROLE
I will be mainly supporting Carolin in the membership area of GEN. I am especially looking forward to getting to know the different communities within the network by conducting interviews with them!
MY DREAM
Peace between humans. Peace between humans and the earth.
