In many ecovillages, autumn is a time full of activity: harvesting and preserving, gathering wood for the stoves, and finally getting around to patching up leaks and drafts before winter...
And in the GEN-Europe offices, we're keeping busy too. After wrapping up the European Ecovillage conference for another year, we're preparing to send a delegation to the COP23 climate talks in Germany to showcase locally-led sustainability solutions, finishing a new round of European funding applications that will enable more young people to experience sustainable living, as well as supporting our host community of Arterra Bizimodu with their crowdfunding campaign.
On top of this, this week in Arterra has seen thirty people from communities all over Europe participate in a GEN course on how to write EU-funded projects.
In the midst of so much activity, we're excited to say that in order to better support our members and enable our network to flourish, we're welcoming two new staff members this autumn.
Angel joins us as IT Manager to strengthen our IT infrastructure. Besides his eight years of technical and management experience, he brings great dedication to the ecovillage movement, having volunteered at the last two European ecovillage conferences - and, we hear, excellent salsa-dancing skills.
After six months of volunteering with us, Fran will join the team as Communications and Outreach Manager in December. She brings communications experience from across the non-profit sector, with a focus on environment and sustainability, and in her spare time keeps Arterra energised with plenty of home-made cakes.
Finally, we look forward to receiving two more EVS volunteers to support the team and learn more about the ecovillage movement.
If you have a chance to take a break from your autumnal activity, we'd love to hear what you're up to in your community. Get in touch and let us know!
