GEN Europe statement of solidarity with Ukraine

It is with great sadness that we witness, after years of armed conflict in the Donbas, the outbreak of open war in Ukraine. Weapons are never a means to settle conflict. Our hearts go out to our members in the country, and to all those striving for peace and community. We commit to offering all and any support that we are able to in this time of fear and uncertainty.

GEN Ukraine is a new member of our network. In the years since its inception, we have been surprised and overjoyed time and again by witnessing the passion, determination, energy, and creativity of its members: from organising the first Ecovillage Design Education course in the country to gatherings and events attended by hundreds of people spreading ecovillage lifestyles. A close bond has been formed between staff, council, and ecovillagers of GEN Europe and GEN Ukraine and we are proud to be part of the same family, united by a wish for a peaceful, sustainable world.

We know that our members in Ukraine, and in Russia, are promoters and lovers of peace, and strive for better understanding between peoples regardless of their background or nationality. We offer our strongest solidarity and greatest love and will do our utmost to support our ecovillage family in any way we can. We are currently in contact with GEN Ukraine and compiling a list of ecovillages who can offer their support if needed.

In community,

GEN Europe Council and Staff

  1. Dear Friends in Ukraine

All the aggressive and sad things that happen in your beautiful country makes us very sad too. Our thought are with you and we feel your suffering in our hearts.
As ecovillages in the world we try to work on the regeneration of the earth and to be connected to the earth. So many people from your country are now on a way to find a safe place for themselves and their children.

We do not know what path you choose, but we support you in doing whatever you choose. Stay save and strong. Don’t forget to ask for other forms of support when rebuilding starts. We will try to help wherever we can.

On behalf of the Association of Ecovillages in Gelderland (Netherlands) I wish you a quick ending of this war and regaining the full freedom of Ukraine.
