E.S.T.Expo 2017

Ecovillage Sustainable Technology Exposition

European Ecovillage Conference 2017,
Ängsbacka, Sweden

During the European Ecovillage Conference 16-20 July 2017 in Ängsbacka, Sweden, we will hold the second edition of the E.S.T.Expo - Ecovillage Sustainable Technology Exposition. The expo demonstrates how ecovillages contribute to reducing carbon dioxide emission using appropriate technologies and simple solutions accessible to all.

Who’s the presenter?

World traveler Mario Romero spent the last 30 years experimenting in renewable energy innovation. For the last two years he has worked to develop the Vulcan T60, a thermocompost prototype.

Compost

Project description

Composting is a technology with great potential, especially if it also produces HOT WATER wi- thout combustion. The stack of chips is treated like any organic substance, allowed to mature over time using microbial flora. This allows us to obtain a biologically stable product “compost” to be used in agricultural activities.

Naked Technology

Who’s the presenter?

Nara Petrovic

Nara is the writer of a bestselling book "Human: Instructions for Use" in his native country Slovenia. He is active in the council of ECOLISE and he co-founded Sustainability Park Istria. He is an activist in the Let's do it World Cleanup movement. He walks barefoot all the time and propagates healthy toilet and sitting habits, stressing sitting cross-legged and squatting. He advocates radically simple sustainable technologies which literally cost nothing and require merely knowledge and skill -- such as natural toothbrush, toilet "paper" etc.

Naked Technology

The crisis of resources is often illustrated with the fuel pointer on red. An even more frightening is the image of the empty roll of toilet paper. You're fumbling for the paper, but the roll is empty! What now?! The workshop and presentation will go along these lines and unravel many extremely simple technologies, which most people don't know about: smart alternatives to toilet paper, toothbrush, shoes, soap etc. It is not about adapting now to the potential collapse of the system in the future -- it is about learning how to drop the boring and pale options which our civilisation offers us and take up much smarter, healthier and more enjoyable alternatives.

Pigott wind turbine

Who’s the presenter?

Marie

Marie-Laure Brunel is French and lives in Los Portales community in Spain. She got her Bachelor’s degree in Renewable Energy in 2007 and worked in a wind energy consulting office, in Brussels for 3 years, to change of wind turbine scale. learning how to build a Piggott wind turbine in a course organized by Tripalium, french association. In 2011, Marie-Laure went to Senegal, Africa, to set up a local company specialized in Piggott small wind systems. Since she returned in 2013, she is a Tripalium trainer and has come in Los Portales to build a wind turbine with community members. She has stayed in Los Portales and organized a course in 2015 to build another wind turbine. She is offering courses either in Los Portales or in remote areas and ecovillages to teach people how to build their small wind turbines and become self-electricity producer, like in Suderbyn ecovillage in 2016.

Piggott

The “Piggott” small wind turbine is a technology designed and developed by Hugh Piggott, international expert in small wind energy with a strong worldwide experience in building wind turbines. He designed this system to be locally self-manufactured everywhere in the world with accessible materials and tools. Everything is built from scratch (wooden blades, alternator made from copper wire and magnets, metal frame and tower ...) and the turbine is lifted up on tower with a manual rope system, to facilitate maintenance operations. Piggott wind turbine is a good off-grid solution for rural electrification areas. It can also be grid-tied. All plans of 6 turbine sizes are available in the Hugh Piggott recipe book, from 200W to 2kW. Whike

The Whike uses this free resource to the max, letting you sail on the roads for the first time. As a land yacht and high performance pedal cycle, the Whike opens up awesome new possibilities for both travel and sport, providing the rider with improved range, visibility, comfort, providing the opertunity to stop pedaling relax and sail. The modern world is starting to realize the full potential of wind power and explore the advantages of hybrid technologies. By combining tried and tested principles of pedal cycles with land yacht capabilities, we have done just that.

Sustainer

Who’s the presenter?

Brian Holden, 65 years old, is a visionary gardener and much more.

Project description

Sustainer

We all need to cook, wash and use the toilet. The use of local pelleted bio-waste in pyrolisis stoves for cooking and hot water leads to making charcoal. Using this charcoal in compost toilets gives realatively smell free toilets. In these toilets, where urine is seperated from solids, ’charged’ biochare is produced, in a month, and later, safe ’humanure’. These, combined with composted kitchen waste, produce ’Terra Preta’. Put all these elements in and arround a shipping container and we have the Sustainer. This technology is a proto-type. Once it is proven viable, then with added water, requiring no ’ground work’, and no pollution, it will meet the three basic human requirements.

biogas digester system

Who’s the presenter?

Who digester

Constanze, Chloe, Marta, Oliviero, Riccardo and Simone are part of the EVS Team co-organizing the conference. They all share a passion about sustainable innovations and have been familiarizing themselves with the Puxin 10 m3 nano scale molds and digester, becoming quickly fascinated by its potential. Each of them has taken an interest in different aspects of this technology and are very excited to have the opportunity to share this information with all the participants.
