ZEGG: Celebrating 20 Years of Existence

and Inaugurating a New Heating System

20 years after its founding, the ZEGG community in Belzig (Germany) has become a "blessing" for the district. This is what the politician Wolfgang Blasig said about ZEGG (Center for Experimental Society Design) in the inauguration ceremony for ZEGG´s new, ecological heating system in November. The community of 100 people of all age groups has come a long way since establishing themselves in a former East German secret police training camp. Today the community members are perceived as "pioneers of change" who give important impulses to the "High Fläming" region by turning it into an "energy transition region" – shifting from fossil fuels to the use of renewable energies.

Additionally, ZEGG has helped to stop violence and conflicts and to integrate migrants in the little town Belzig. Since ZEGG was founded, many smaller offshoot communities and groups have made the "Fläming" into a green and alternative region. One of the next steps will be to install a regional currency.
